Dhaka – The High Court on Wednesday ordered a judicial probe into the alleged assault of a school teacher by a lawmaker in Narayanganj in May this year.
The court order came a day after the police filed a report on the incident of alleged harassment of school teacher Shyamal Kanti Bhakta by local lawmaker Selim Osman as the law enforcers found none was guilty for the incident.
A two-member bench comprising Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Ashish Ranjan Das passed the order upon a petition asking the authorities to report by November 3.
The court also set November 6 for the next hearing on the matter.
The court in its observation said that police has failed to identify the real people responsible for the misdeed while judicial mind had not been applied in delivering the order of registering the police report after taking it into consideration by the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court of Narayanganj.
Police in its report said the teacher’s assault had taken place all of a sudden and no legal action could be taken against any person as the teacher had no complaint to this end.
The court earlier on May 18 issued a rule asking why action has not been taken against the culprits. The education ministry also asked for investigation.
