Dhaka – Bangladesh Nationalist Party has demanded medical treatment of jailed party chief at a private health facility in Dhaka, party leaders said on Sunday.
Two senior leaders of the BNP made the plea when they meet Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal at his office.
Standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan and vice chairman Hafiz Uddin Ahmed made the demand of shifting Khaleda Zia to United Hospital in Gulshan for her medical care.
The government earlier this month taken Khaleda to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medial University for check up after the party demanded that she was ill inside the prison.
A four-member medical board was also formed to examine the former prime minister, who was transported to jail after a court convicted her for misappropriation of funds meant for orphans and sentenced five years in prison.
After meeting the home minister on Sunday, Nazrul Islam Khan said that the minister assured them of shifting Khaleda to the hospital.
The Home Minister said that the decision will depend on the physicians.
The decision for a party delegation to visit the home minister was taken on Saturday night.
