Dhaka – Police on Wednesday found three bodies, burnt in explosion-triggered fire, of suspected Islamist at a militants’ den in Dhaka’s Mirpur neighbourhood.
The members of the firefighters entered the six-storey building in the morning after the fire that believed to have caused by explosions Tuesday night was doused to find the bodies.
The law enforcement agencies, acting on a tip off, cordoned off the building where they believed one of the leading militants of a faction of Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladeshi along with his associated were hiding.
In dramatic developments after the police evacuated other residents of the building, the suspected militants agreed to police call for surrender.
But, few hours after their agreement, loud explosion occurred and then the building turned into an inferno.
Police now believe the militants might have chosen killing themselves instead of surrender.
Spokesman of the Rapid Action Battalion Mufti Mahmud Khan said the lawmen saw three bodies in a fourth-floor room. The burnt bodies were beyond recognition.
The building was heated up and the operation would require some more time to conclude, he added.
The suspected militants were believed to have been residing on the fourth-floor of the six-storey building.
