Nine BNP leaders including Rizvi face arrest warrant

Dhaka – A Dhaka Court issued an arrest warrant against nine Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leaders including BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi in an explosive substances case filed with Pallabi Police Station, court officials said Monday.

Taking cognizance of charge sheet of the case, Acting Metropolitan Session Judge Ruhul Amin came up with the order.

The court also issued an order officer-in-charge of the police station to submit a report on August 23 in this regard.

The other accused are as follows: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s special assistant Shimul Biswas, former MP Syeda Ashrafi Papia, press secretary Maruf Kamal Khan, Habibunnabi Khan Sohel and four others.

On January 27, 2015, a bus was set fire in Mirpur area under Pallabi Police Station during the BNP-led 20-party combine’s blockade programme.

Later, a case was lodged under the Explosive Substances Act.

On May 3, 2016, the investigation officer of the case submitted the charge sheet of the case to the cornered court accusing 17 people.
