Dhaka – Parliament on Wednesday passed a bill seeking establishment of an institute for nuclear agriculture research to ensure a sustainable and production oriented agricultural system in Bangladesh.
Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury proposed the bill for passage and the lawmakers voted yes to the bill which also advocates for production of more environment-friendly production of crops using nuclear technology.
The Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture Research Bill, 2017 will now be sent for the presidential consent.
A 16-member advisory council headed by agriculture minister and an 11-member management board would be constituted to fulfill the objective of the law.
The management board will be entrusted with the responsibility of conducting administrative works, looking after the financial matters and implementing day- to-day affairs of the institute.
With the passage of the bill, the Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agricultural Ordinance-1984 was scrapped.
