Dhaka – Cricketer Arafat Sunny was denied bail and sent to jail as he was arrested in a case under Information Communication Technology law filed by a woman who claimed to be his wife, officials said.
The spinner, who had played for the national team, was taken for custodial interrogation after he was accused in posting offensive pictures of the woman on social media.
The woman also filed a lawsuit accusing him of demanding dowry worth about 2 million taka.
Police on Saturday arrested the cricketer on Sunday and produced before the court Tuesday after the woman, Nasrin Sultana, filed the case under ICT Act.
Police did not seek a further remand while defence counsels pleaded for bail, which was denied.
Sunny’s lawyer said that the case was based on a false allegation and fake marriage documents.
The case over dowry is also false, he said.
