Dhaka – A fire broke out at one of the largest slums in Dhaka burnt more than 100 homes on Sunday, firefighters said.
The fire, origin of which could not be known immediately, broke out at around 3pm at the slum located in Mohakhali area.
Fourteen firefighting units rushed to the spot to douse the flame, an on-duty officer at the Fire Service and Civil Defence control room said.
Television footage show that the fire engulfed quickly and ripped through the makeshift homes made of bamboos, woods and corrugated iron sheets. Many were seen their homes demolishing to prevent the fire from engulfing more areas.
