Dhaka –Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina trashed an idea of procuring special aircraft for the President and Prime Minister of the country terming it ‘luxury” for an impoverished country like Bangladesh.
“There is no need to buy a dedicated aircraft for the President or the Prime Minister to travel abroad as the time has not come yet for such luxury,” said the prime minister adding that she feels comfortable and safe to travel along with the common people.
Hasina came up with the views at a press conference she addressed her official Gono Bhaban resident on her recent visits to Hungary. The special flight of Bangladesh’s national airlines carrying the prime minister made an emergency landing in Turkmenistan as it was on its way to Budapest.
Hasina said the unscheduled landing of the aircraft caused by mechanical faults, she said as the prime minister faced a volley of questions on the emergency landing of the flight.
“Accident is accident which may occur at any time. There is nothing to be so worried about it,” said the prime minister.
“It’s a matter of great relief that the accident didn’t happen and we are alive by the grace of the almighty…,” she added.
Hasina referred to the investigation launched by this time saying an investigation is underway to unearth what caused the mechanical glitch requiring her aircraft to make an unscheduled landing.
The Boeing that was carrying her to Budapest was a new one procured from Boeing Company but the mechanical faults or human factors could have caused the debacle “aviation disaster is quite usual”, Hasina said.
