Dhaka – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday greeted Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for turning up to the BRICS BIMSTC outreach summit in Indian state of Goa.
The Indian premier twitted in Bangla to greet his Bangladeshi counterpart as she reached India in the morning to join BRICS-BIMSTEC Leaders’ Outreach Summit being hosted the Indian government.
“I appreciate your role to cement Bangladesh-India relations,” read’s Modi’s twitter message.
Earlier in the morning, Hasina left Dhaka for Goa to attend the summit.
Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmud Ali and senior officials from the Prime Minister’s Office and foreign ministry are among Hasina’s delegation.
The two-day BRICS (Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa) and BIMSTEC (The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) summit being organised in Goa.
Members of the BIMSTEC are included Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand. The two-day BRICS Summit wraps up on Sunday.
The summit pins its theme as ‘BRICS-BIMSTEC: A Partnership in Opportunities’.
On the sidelines of the Summit, Hasina will hold talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the evening.
As per the schedule, she will hold bilateral talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, Nepalese Premier Pushpa Kamal Dahal on the sidelines during her two-day visit to India.
Hasina is likely to address at the outreach meeting which will be participated by the seven leaders of BIMSTEC countries.
Hasina is scheduled to return home on October 17.
