Dhaka – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced two days of mourning after the deadliest terrorist attacks on a restaurant frequented by foreign nationals in capital Dhaka.
At least 20 hostages, two police officers and six terrorists were killed in the attacks at the Holey Artisan Bakery restaurant in Gulshan diplomatic enclave on Friday.
In a television address to the nation, Hasina announced the mourning programmes for Sunday and Monday to pay respect to the victims of the deadliest-ever attacks by the suspected Islamist militants.
Bangladesh generally hoists black flags and flies the national flag half-mast besides paying flowers to the memories of the victims on national mourning day.
Hasina also called the people of Bangladesh to strengthen her hands to exterminate the terrorists at any cost.
“I’m making a fervent appeal to all to face terrorism by involving the anti-terrorism committees, community police and the general people at district and upazila levels,” she said.
She also urged the guardians to ensure their children get proper teachings against the militants’ efforts to radicalise them.
“Keep a watch that they (children) don’t go to the wrong path,” she said.
