Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka, Riva Ganguly Das, during a farewell meet on Sunday with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s wishes on her 74rh birthday, officials said.
She handed over the letter and bouquet from Modi to Sheikh Hasina a day ahead of her birthday.
During the meeting, Riva Ganguly “reiterated the importance of Bangladesh in the ‘Neighborhood First’ policy of India and recounted the progress made in bilateral relations under the visionary leadership of PM Modi and PM Hasina,” a high commission statement said.
The Indian envoy presented a collection of rare footage of the visit of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to India in 1972 to the Bangladesh premier.
On her part, Hasina thanked the outgoing envoy “for her contribution to strengthening India-Bangladesh relations and wished her the best for her next posting.”
Career diplomat Vikram Doraiswami will succeed Riva Ganguly Das, who return to the External Affairs Ministry as Secretary (East) in New Delhi after about 18 months in Dhaka.
