Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has asked her administration to remain alert to prevent a potential second wave of the novel coronavirus may sweep the Bangladesh during the winter season.
The Prime Minister gave the directives during the weekly meeting of the cabinet on Monday, a government spokesman told reporters after the meeting at Bangladesh Secretariat.
Hasina joined the meeting virtually from her official Ganabhaban residence, cabinet secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam said.
“The second wave of novel coronavirus is predicted during the October-November period. We should remain prepared to face it with the previous experience,” the Prime Minister was quoted as saying by the secretary.
She asked the religious affairs ministry to ensure that the Muslim worshippers wear masks when they come to join the daily congregations, especially during the afternoon and evening prayers.
The devotees should be encouraged to wear facemasks during the other prayer times as well, she told the meeting adding that the devotees should also pursue others to do the same.
It was observed that many devotees enter the mosque nowadays without wearing facemask, she added.
The Prime Minister on Sunday warned that the Covid-19 situation may worsen further with the setting in of the winter season.
