Bangladesh has logged a new record Covid-19 infections with officials reporting more than 13,000 cases on Monday, making a sense that the situation may worsen further.
The Health Ministry in a press statement said the nationwide tally of infections from the virus stood 103,4957 with 13,768 reported in the last 24 hours ended on Monday morning.
The statement also said the virus caused 220 deaths during the period, raising the fatality toll to 16,639 at the rate of 1.61 since the pandemic began in March last year.
The infection rate is 31.24 per cent, it said adding that some 44,067 samples were tested in the past day at different health facilities across the country. The infection rate was 2.30 per cent on February 8.
The government, however, reported recovery of some 7,020 patients making total recovery count to 881,521. The recovery rate is 85.17 per cent.
More than half of the total infections were reported in the administrative division Dhaka, which also sees the highest deaths of 8,179 fatalities.
Some 3,037 deaths were reported Chattogram, 1,270 in Rajshahi, 1,909 in Khulna, 491 in Barishal, 590 in Sylhet, 770 in Rangpur and 393 in Mymensingh division.
