21 more arrested over attacks on Hindus in Brahmanbaria

Dhaka – Investigators have arrested 21 more persons for their alleged involvement in the attacks on Hindu temples and homes in eastern Bangladeshi district of Brahmanbaria, police said on Monday.

With the latest, the number of detainees stood at 74 after the October 30 attacks on the minority community in the eastern part of the country.

The lawmen carried out the overnight raids in the areas for Friday, Saturday and Sunday after the attacks on temples and homes on October 31 and an incident of setting blaze on five more Hindu homes in the same vicinity on November 4.

Officer Abu Zafar said that the lawmen arrested a total of 74 people so far in connection with the attacks. The identity of the arrestees could not be disclosed yet.

The officer hints about more raids.

A Muslim crowd on October 30 equipped locally-made weapons vandalized more than 20 Hindu temples and 100 homes in the vicinity over a controversial Facebook post by a Hindu man. A group of perpetrators set ablaze six more Hindu homesteads in the sub-district on Friday.

Some unidentified young men attempted another fresh attack at Rishipara village of the sub-district but it was foiled by the local residents on Saturday.
