Three students dies as picnic bus electrified in Gazipur

Three students from the Islamic University of Technology (IUT) were killed after a double-decker bus came into contact with an overhead power line during a university picnic. The tragic incident occurred around 10:30 AM today in Udaykhali village, Telihati Union, Sreepur Upazila of Gazipur. Three other students were injured in the accident.

The deceased have been identified as Mostakim Rahman Mahin (22), Mozammel Hossain (23), and Jubayer Rahman Sakib (23).

Dr. Arafat Hossain, a faculty member from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, confirmed the details of the incident.

He stated, “A group of 460 teachers and students was traveling to the ‘Matir Maya’ resort in Palaid village, Telihati Union, Sreepur, using six double-decker BRTC buses and three microbuses.”

Around 10:30 AM, one of the buses came into contact with a dangling electric wire in Udaykhali, seriously injuring six students.

Among them, Mahin died on the spot. Two others died at a hospital. The injured were immediately rushed to various hospitals, he said.

Dr. Zakiul Islam, Deputy Director of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, later confirmed the deaths of the other two students.
