Khaleda Zia taken to hospital

Dhaka – Ailing former prime minister and chief of the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party Khaleda Zia has been admitted to a hospital in Dhaka for regular check-up, the party said on Thursday.
Zia, who has been acquitted from graft charges for which she was convicted and sentenced for 10 years in jail during her rival Sheikh Hasina’s regime, was taken to Evercare Hospital, where she has been provided medical care ever since she was released from jail in 2022.
The BNP chief was granted conditional release suspending her jail sentences by Hasina’s government on the ground of age and ailment. She was allowed to stay at home and take treatment in Bangladesh, despite the fact that her party was very vocal to take her abroad for treatment.
Zia was acquitted from all charges and sentences as an interim administration headed by Mohammad Yunus was installed after Hasina resigned and fled the country on August 5 in the face of violent student uprising.
BNP’s media cell official Shairul Kabir Khan said that the former prime minister was taken to the hospital early on Thursday.
Her personal physician and BNP Standing Committee Member AZM Zahid Hossain said the chairperson’s medical check-up will be done as per the consultation of the medical board.
