Rangpur – Ten persons were sentenced to death for killing a truck driver and his assistant nearly 10 years ago in northern Bangladeshi district of Rangpur, court officials said Thursday.
District and Session Judge Kamruzzaman handed down the verdict at a crowded courtroom in Rangpur in connection with the murder of the driver and his assistance after the criminals abducted their rice laden truck from Taraganj sub-district.
Three of the convicts were on the dock when the judge pronounced the verdict.
Prosecutor AZM Kamruzzaman said that the driver, Paresh Chandra, and his assistant Monoranjon where killed by the gang on March 28, 2006. The verdict came after lengthy hearing and cross examination of witnesses.
The rest of the convicts remained absconding.
