Dhaka – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has donated 1 million
taka for improved medical treatment of ATM Shamsuzzaman, officials said on
Monday.
The award-winning actor is undergoing treatment at a hospital
in Dhaka as he suffers from many health complications.
Prime Minister’s special assistant Biplob Barua handed the cheque
for the amount to the actor’s family at Asgar Ali Hospital in the old Dhaka.
Shamsuzzaman was admitted to the hospital on April 26. The
77-year old actor was put on life support on April 30 as his health condition
deteriorated, but it was later removed on the same day as the condition
improved slightly.
He was again put on the ventilation on May 6, but the
ventilation was removed on May 11 as he improved once again.
“My father is comparatively well now,” Koyel, daughter of the
actor, told reporters at the hospital.
Dr Samanta Lal Sen, a personal friend of the actor and national
coordinator at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery of Dhaka
Medical College Hospital, and noted singer Rafiqul Alam, were present at the
hospital when the cheque was handed.
Shamsuzaman was honoured with Ekushey Padak in 2015. He won
Bangladesh National Film Awards five times.
