Dhaka- A suspected killer of a schoolgirl Dhaka was remanded in custody for six days, court officials said on Thursday.
Law enforcements produced the accused before a Dhaka court Thursday after he was arrested a day ago from northern Nilphamari district. The investigators pleaded that the accused should be remanded in custody for 10 days but the court granted only six days of custodial interrogation.
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel on Wednesday arrested Obaidul after hundreds of the student of Willes Little Flower School and College in Dhaka protested the killing of Suraiya Akhter Risha.
The eighth-grade student Risha, 14, daughter of Md Ramzan Ali, a resident of Bangshal of old Dhaka, was stabbed by the suspect assailant in Dhaka’s Kakrail area on August 24 while she was going to her home from school.
The girl succumbed to her injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Sunday morning.
Obaidul, the lone suspect, remained absconding for days after the killing.
The crime-busting force captured the suspect from Sonahar village in Domar sub-district of Nilphamari on Wednesday and he was brought to Dhaka to face the court.
Earlier on Monday, law enforcers arrested a sister and brother-in-law of Obaidul from Niratongi village in Birganj sub-district of Dinajpur.
Hundreds of students from Willes Little Flower School and College staged demonstrations in Dhaka for days prompting the Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid to announce that the culprit will be arrested soon.
