Dhaka – At least three people have been wounded after crude bombs went off at a rally organised by Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, the student wing of the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party, in northern Rajshahi city, police said on Tuesday.
According to witnesses, the attackers came by motorbikes and exploded the bombs at around 11 am at the rally organised as part of campaign for Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul, who has been running election as a mayoral candidate for Rajshahi City Corporation scheduled for July 30 voting.
Officer Iftekhar Alam, said police have been rushed to the scene on information about the blasts. The injured were rushed to hospital.
The local unit of the BNP staged demonstrations after the rally was foiled. They blamed the ruling Awami League party for carrying out the attack. No comment was available instantly from the ruling party.
Former minister and BNP’s one of the organising secretary Rihul Kuddus Talukder said the government was trying to create panic among voters in the northern city.
