Dhaka – More than a dozen people have been killed as lightning strikes during thunderstorms that swept parts of Bangladesh on Sunday, officials and hospital sources said.
Five people were killed in northern Sirajganj district alone, followed by four others in south-western Magura districts.
One each was killed in south-eastern Rangamati, eastern Brahmanbaria and Noakhali districts, according to family and hospital sources.
Dhaka and other districts experienced heavy rainfall since morning. The met office in Dhaka recorded 50 millimetres of rainfall in three hours of downpour in the morning.
The rain comes with darkening the sky in the morning, noontime and in the evening.
The met office forecast cloudy and rainy weather for the next couple of days.
