Dhaka – At least four persons have been killed and dozen others injured after a train derailed near Bangladeshi capital on Sunday, police and railway officials said.
Train communication between the capital and rest of the country remained suspended for nearly four hours after the accident occurred in Gazipur at around 12 noon, officer Yasin Faruk said.
Four coaches of the slipped off the rail track presumably when the Dhaka-bound train from Jamalpur was changing the track.
The Railway department has formed a committee to investigate the accident asking it to report back in three days.
Among the deceased, one was a rickshaw-puller, while the three others could not be identified immediately. The injured were rushed to health facilities in Tongi and Dhaka.
Railways Minister Mujibul Haque visited the accident site.
He promised for assistance to the families of the victims to bear costs of medical treatment of the injured.
