Dhaka – Bangladesh Nationalist Party has picked Tabith Awal for the upcoming by-election to Dhaka North City Corporation slated for February 26 voting.
The party general secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the name of the candidate on Monday night in Dhaka. Tabith was the candidate for the 2015 city election.
The ruling Awami League party is also set to announce name of the candidate for the polls Tuesday.
A total of 21 aspirants collected nomination forms from two major political camps led by Awami League and Bangladesh Nationalist Party. Five had collected nomination forms from the BNP.
The mayoral position at the DNCC fell vacant after the death of Mayor Annisul Huq on November 30. The election commission last week announced the schedule for the polls.
Tabith contested the previous election against Annisul, but his party boycotted the election on the voting day over allegations of rigging.
The last election to the corporation was held on April 28, 2015.
