Dhaka – The Election Commission has announced the schedule for by-election to Dhaka North City Corporation with voting on February 26.
Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda on Tuesday announced the dates for submission of nomination papers, withdrawal of candidacy and time for electioneering.
According to the CEC the deadline for filing nomination paper is January 18. January 21 and 22 have been set for scrutinising the nominations papers. The deadline for withdrawal of candidacy is January 29.
Huda sought cooperation from everyone concerned for peaceful conducting of the significant city election.
“We hope this will be a vote festival,” he added.
The mayoral position in the North Dhaka fell vacant after the death of Annisul Huq on November 30. The Local Government Division announced the constituency vacant on December 1.
The commission also announced polls to 36 new wards to elect councillors. Those words were added to Dhaka north and south city corporations. The voting in those words will also be held on February 26.
