Dhaka – A sacked leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student wing of the ruling Awami League party, was arrested Tuesday over alleged rape of a number of girls in his locality in central Bangladeshi district of Shariatpur, police said.
The lawmen picked up Arif Hossain Howlader in Gosairhat sub-district over the charges of rape of six women Bhedarganj upazila the district, officer Khairul Alam said.
He was also accused of spreading the rape scenes on the social media sites, added the officer.
Arif, a former general secretary of Narayanpur union unit of the League, had been wanted on police list for few months and the police captured him tracking his mobile phone number.
The accused was suspended from the organisation in October after the victims brought allegations against him of blackmailing them.
The former BCL leader installed hidden camera in the washrooms of the women and then blackmailed them one after another with the footage he spread on the social site.
The videos went viral on the cell phones of the villagers since middle of October.
