Hasina off to Paris to attend One Planet Summit

Dhaka – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has left Dhaka for Paris to attend a conference being attended by global leaders to discuss about the ecological emergency for the planet Earth, officials said on Monday.

The One Planet Summit is being organised to mark the second anniversary of the historic climate agreement in Paris that determined the level of emission to save the world.

French President Emmanuel Macron, President of the World Bank Group Jim Young Kim, and the Secretary General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres are expected to address the ecological emergency by calling together the global leaders for united actions to save the Earth.

The Paris climate agreement was signed on December 12, 2015. The One Planet Summit is scheduled to begin Tuesday at La Seine Musicale, a music and performing arts center, located at Ile Senguin island in the western suburbs of the French capital.

Nearly 100 leaders from around the world along with 2,000 participants from non-governmental organisations, foundations, public and private sectors are expected to join the summit for accelerating efforts to fight climate change challenges.

Prime Minister Hasina is scheduled to attend the high-level segment of the summit on Tuesday. She will also attend a community event at the place of her residence on the same day after returning from the summit.

Hasina is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with France President Emmanuel Macron at Elysee Palace on Tuesday morning.

She will also join a lunch to be hosted by the French president for the heads of the state and government, co-organizers and VIPs of the summit at Elysee Palace.

Hasina is scheduled to return home on Thursday.

Deputy Leader of the Jatiya Sangsad Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, PM’s Adviser HT Imam, Jatiya Sangsad Chief Whip ASM Feroz, the chiefs of the three services, the dean of the diplomatic corps and high civil and military officials saw the Prime Minister off at the Dhaka airport on Monday.
