Dhaka – The mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation, Annisul Huq, has passed away at a hospital in London after months of ailments, officials said on Thursday.
He was 66.
A press statement by the corporation said the mayor died at Wellington Hospital, where he had been undergoing treatment for the last months, at 10:23pm Bangladesh Standard Time.
Physicians at the hospital officially announced demise of Huq as he had been in ventilation. He was diagnosed with cerebral vasculitis and he was being in a sedative state for more than three months in the hospital.
He travelled to London on a personal visit on July 29 and was admitted to the hospital after he fell ill.
The body of the Mayor will be flown to Dhaka on Saturday morning. He will be buried at Banani Graveyard after funeral prayers at the Army Stadium the same day, the city corporation statement said.
The statement urged the people to pray for the departed soul.
Born on 27 October 1952 in Kobirhat of Noakhali, Huq was a popular television hosts for quite a long years. He completed his bachelor’s degree in economics from Chittagong University.
Huq was the chairman of Mohammadi Group, which he founded in 1986.
Married to Rubana Huq, the couple have three children – Navidul Huq, Wamiq Umaira and Tanisha Fariamaan Huq.
