Hasina urges for more investment in leather sector

Dhaka – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has called upon the foreign entrepreneurs to come up with more investment in Bangladesh’s thriving leather industry.

She made the call Thursday inaugurating Bangladesh Leather Footwear and Leathergoods International Sourcing Show (BLLISS)-2017 in Dhaka.

The Prime Minister opened the three-day event at the International Convention Centre, Bashundhara through videoconferencing from her official Ganabhaban residence.

The Ministry of Commerce and the Leathergoods and Footwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association of Bangladesh have jointly organised the event to attract more investment in Bangladesh with the theme “Think Ahead, Think Bangladesh”.

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed was present at inauguration ceremony as the special guest, while entrepreneur Syed Manzur Elahi and LFMEAB President M Saiful Islam addressed the audience.

PM’s Private Sector Development Adviser Salman F Rahman and Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim were present at Ganabhaban, among others, while Director General (admin) of the PMO Kabir Bin Anwar moderated the function, according to state-run Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha news agency.

Ministers, parliament members, diplomats, dignitaries and the leaders of different trade bodies were also attended the inauguration of the expo at the Basundhara convention centre.

World famous brands and international buyers from 15 countries including China, India, Vietnam and Thailand have been participating in the show.
