Dhaka – Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda has said the electoral body was not prepared for using Electronic Voting Machine for the next general election slated for end of 2018.
“The commission will use the machine (EVM) on pilot basis for various local elections,” Huda told reporters at the commission as the ruling Awami League party, in a dialogue with the commission recently, demanded introduction of the machine in next general election.
To another question on deployment of army troopers, the CEC said it will be too early to have a decision on deployment.
Bangladesh Nationalist Party, an opposition outside parliament, has demanded deployment of army with magistracy power during the polls.
“Army troopers are deployed in every national polls, it is a reality. But we are yet to decide over the matter,” Huda said referring to the past election. He also asked the reporters as to why they were interested so early to know about the EC’s deployment plan.
“We have a lot of time in hand, nearly a year” the CEC said.
The commission will decide its deployment plan.
