Two detained over smuggling tiger cubs in Jessore

Dhaka – Police on Monday detained two young men carrying four tiger cubs in a SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) in north-western district of Jessore.

Officer Anisur Rahman said a team of district police, acting on a tip-off, intercepted the vehicle at Chanchra of the district and found the cubs in two wooden boxes.

The youths – Kamruzzaman and Rana Mia at their late 20s were travelling by the Prado jeep to take the cubs to a person in Sharsha sub-district bordering Indian state of West Bengal.

The cubs were being taken from Uttara area of the capital Dhaka, the officer said adding that legal actions were taken against the detainees.

District forest officials were asked to determine the species of the tiger cubs.
