Dhaka – Authorities have ordered all social and cultural organisations to end their activities by the evening at the Teachers Students Centre at Dhaka University – a move criticised by many saying it would go against the spirit of university education.
The university in a press statement issued on Tuesday said that the decision was taken on the security grounds.
“Complete all activities of your respective office between 9:00am and 8:00pm taking the security ground into consideration,” the release said adding that the order could be relaxed till 11:00pm as per the instruction of the higher authorities.
A copy of the order has been sent to the office of the DU proctor.
People, especially university alumni, reacted on the social media saying it does not go with the openness that a university should exercise. Many of them were seen asking for revising the decision to help flourish cultural activities at the Dhaka University, the leading higher education centre in Bangladesh.
