Dhaka – At least seven persons have been killed and dozens other injured after a bus carrying passengers fell in a roadside ditch in eastern Bangladeshi district of Commilla, police said on Sunday.
The bus skidded off the Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Nuritala of Chandina sub-district when it was trying to overtake another bus killing three people on the scene, officer Jibon Chandra said.
Four others died on their way to hospital, the officer added.
The accident scene is 65 kilometers away from the capital Dhaka.
Rescuers from Fire Service and Civil Defence department rescued the injured ones and rushed them to nearby health facility.
Road fatalities in Bangladesh are common due to lax implementation of law, lack of awareness and poor road conditions. An average of 8,000 people die of road accidents every year, according to independent researchers.
