Dhaka – Bangladesh on Sunday dismissed a report that surfaced in Indian media over a failed plot to assassinate Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina last month.
The Prime Minister’s office in a statement said that the reports were confusing, motivated and baseless.
The statement signed by Prime Minister’s deputy press secretary Mohammad Ashraful Alam also requested the media to exercise caution and judgment in disseminating such confusing information.
Indian broadcaster CNNIBN and its news18 website reported quoting unnamed intelligence sources on Sunday that loyalists among Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s guards and counter-terrorism unit of police foiled an attempt on her life on August 24.
The report referred to intelligence sources in both Bangladesh and India. But there was no official attribution.
