Dhaka – At least four persons have been killed after a train rammed a three-wheeler auto-rickshaw in northern Bangladeshi district of Jamalpur on Wednesday, officials said.
Four other people were critically injured when the accident occurred at about 6 pm at Chandra rail-crossing in the district town. The accident scene is nearly 140 kilometers north-west of the capital Dhaka.
According to witnesses, the Dewanganj-bound train rammed the auto rickshaw when it got onto the rail track along with eight passengers. The railway crossing has no gateman to stop vehicular movements when any train crosses.
One of the passengers of the rickshaw died on the scene. Three others died on their way to a health facility in Jamalpur. Four others were admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of the district administration Rasel Sabrin told media that each the families of those killed in the accident will be given Tk 10,000 for complete their rites. He said the bodies of the victim were kept in Jamalpur Sadar Hospital morgue.
