Dhaka – Law enforcers have arrested two persons accused of raping two university students at a hotel in Dhaka’s Babani area more than a month ago, police said.
The lawmen picked up Ahmed Shafat and Shadman Sakif from Pathantola area in Sylhet, where they had been hiding after the female students filed case against five people.
The suspected rapists were brought to Dhaka in the morning. A police officer said that the accused confessed to their guilt.
“We will seek the suspect to be remanded in custody for 10 days for interrogation,” Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner of the detective branch of police told reporters at a press briefing.
The law enforcers conducted the operation in Sylhet with the help of local police as they have information that the suspects were hiding after the case was filed.
The rape victims filed the case with Banani Police Station on Saturday against five people including Shafat and Nayem.
They allegedly raped the girls in Rain Tree hotel while three others assisted them.
Shafat’s driver Billal and Sadman Sakif were accused of assisting Shafat and Nayem.
