Fisheries and Livestock Minister Sayedul Haque told this in parliament while replying to a question during the regular question-answer session.
The minister said that the Hilsha production was increasing gradually. The production of the national fish reached at 3.87 lakh metric tonnes now, he added.
“To take the Hilsha production to expected level, the government has taken decision to establish Hilsha research wing in Chandpur’s River centre. The issue is under process right now,” he said.
The minister said various steps were taken including ban on fishing for 22 days and mobile courts operation to increase the production of the national fish.
