Dhaka – A suspected Islamist militant of banned Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh was gunned down in northern district of Bogra on Thursday as the security forces launched an anti-terrorist raid in the district.
Al-Amin alias Rony, known as regional chief of the Islamist group, killed in the gunfight that occurred on Simabari-Ranirahata highway near Jamnagar area in Sherpur sub-district in the early hours of the day, officer Khan Mohammad Erfan said.
Rony, 23, hailed from Bujroop Rajarampur village in Godagari sub-district of northern Rajshahi district.
The lawmen picked up Rony on Tuesday night from his village home as part of the anti-militant raids in the district, said the officer. Roni’s associates attacked the policemen when they raided a place in Bogra. The lawmen also fired guns leaving the suspect killed on the scene.
Some militants managed to flee the scene immediately.
One pistol, two magazines and three bullets were seized from the spot. The body was kept at Bogra Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital morgue.
