Dhaka -Police have detained an elected chairman of an Upazila Council, a second-tier local government institution, in northern Bangladeshi district of Mymensingh over criminal offences, police said on Wednesday.
The lawmen picked up Ahmmed Tyebur Rahman Hiron, the chairman of Gouripur Upazila Parishad from a nearby shop of his area on Tuesday evening.
Hiron is district joint-convener of opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party. He is accused in a number of criminal cases in Gouripur and northern Netrokona district, officer Delawar Ahmed said.
Hiron was scheduled to be produced before a Mymensingh court, Ahmed added.
