Dhaka – Five passengers of a private car died Sunday after a speeding train hit the vehicle at a level-crossing in central Bangladeshi district of Gazipur, police said.
The accident occurred at Nayanagar of Kaliakoir sub-district, some 35 kilometers north of Dhaka, when the car trying to pass the level-crossing, a police officer said. The car was carrying five people, four of whom are from a family, and a Kolkata-bound Maitree Express train hit it at the car leaving all of them killed on the scene.
Train communication between Dhaka and northern zone remained suspended after the accident. Two coaches of the train were derailed.
Bangladesh Railway has been trying to remove the derailed coaches.
