Ivy sworn in as Narayanganj mayor for the second straight-term  

Dhaka – Selina Hayat Ivy has taken oath as Narayanganj City Corporation mayor for the second consecutive term as she won the December 22 election.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina administered the oath at a function at Prime Minister’s Office on Thursday morning.

Ivy, an Awami League nominee, was reelected mayor of Narayanganj City for the second time defeating Bangladesh Nationalist Party candidate Shakhawat Hossain Khan.

The election to the Naraynganj city was lauded by observers and election monitors as the Election Commission conducted it peacefully.

Twenty-seven general councilors and nine women councilors of reserved seats also took oath on Thursday.

Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain administered the oath to all elected councilors.

Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Kader attended the function.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina posed with newly elected office bearers of the Narayanganj city after the oath taking ceremony.
