Dhaka – A lawmaker of Bangladesh’s ruling Awami League party was shot dead by unknown assailants in northern Gaibandha district on Saturday, police said.
Three arms-wielding criminals entered into Manzurul Islam Liton’s home in Bamandanga of Sundarganj sub-district in the evening and fired guns from close range leaving him injured, officer Atiar Rahman said.
Liton, a lawmaker from Gaibandha-1 parliamentary constituency, died later in Rangpur Medical College Hospital, he said.
The attackers came by a motorbike left the scene quickly after they fire their guns.
Leaders and activists of local Awami League protested the killing in the district headquarters and his constituency. They blocked railway line and demanded arrest the attackers.
Liton was accused in a case after he shot a 10-year-old schoolboy on October 2, 2015.
