Dhaka – Two major contenders in Narayanganj mayoral race expressed high hope that they would win the election if the polls are fair.
Selina Hayat Ivy of ruling Awami League and Shakhawat Hossain of opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party came up with the remarks after casting their votes on Thursday. They were apparently happy with the election atmosphere.
Ivy said that her party must win in the polls with the vast majority while Shahkahwat said that he would make the day if the voters can cast their votes without fear.
The AL candidate said that the election began in a gleeful mood and electors are casting their vote in festivity.
“We have to wait until the result is made to response to many rumors,” Ivy told reporters after casting the vote.
Shakhawat Hossain, on the other hand, said he will not boycott the election if the polls are fair and transparent.
He cast vote at Adarsha School polling centre in the city at 8:15am.
The government and the law enforcements must play a vital role in creating congenial atmosphere for every candidate for holding free, fair, neutral and inclusive polls.
“If the polls are free, fair and impartial and inclusive, BNP is sure to get landslide victory,” said the Shahkhawat adding that the Awami League government should set up precedence by holding a free, fair and unobjectionable city polls.
Khan said if the result of the polls is fair and transparent, he will accept whatever the result is.
