Dhaka – A fresh autopsy of the body of Bangladesh Chhatra League central leader Diaz Irfan Chowdhury has revealed marks of injuries although his death last month in Chittagong was propagated as suicide.
Physician Sohel Mahmud, assistant professor of Dhaka Medical College’s forensic department, after conducting the autopsy said on Sunday that some bruises were found on Diaz’s body.
“But we need to wait for some more reports to come to a conclusion,” the physician told reporters in Dhaka.
The body of Diaz, who was said to have committed suicide on November 20 at a private dormitory in the port city of Chittagong, was brought to Dhaka on Saturday in line with a court order.
A three-member committee of the Dhaka Medical College carried out a fresh autopsy after Diaz’s body was exhumed in Chittagong.
Diaz was central assistant secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student wing of the ruling Awami League party.
His body was found hanging in his room on November 20 and his political fellows say he might have committed suicide. Initial autopsy report confirmed that he committed suicide.
But his family believes Diaz has no reason to commit suicide and filed a murder case against 10 people, including an assistant proctor of the university and president of the BCL university unit.
Based on the case, the court of senior judicial magistrate Sibal Kumar Dey asked the authorities concerned to exhume the body to conduct a fresh autopsy at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
