Dhaka – Senior leftist politician Ajoy Roy died on Monday at the age of 89, family sources said.
The leftist politician, who was the president of Sammilita Samajik Andolon, breathed his last at his residence in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi.
Roy also led a platform against communalism and militancy in the Muslim-majority country. He had been suffering from various complicacies.
Pankaj Bhattacharya, a long-time comrade of Roy and president of Okiya NAP, said his wife Joyonti Roy was with him during his demise.
Roy’s body has been kept at the BIRDEM Hospital. The body will be taken to the Central Shaheed Minar on Wednesday to facilitate common people to pay respect to the left veteran.
