Xi Jinping to arrive in Dhaka Friday

Dhaka – Chinese President Xi Jinping is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on a short visit on Friday to hold discussion for further bolstering cooperation with Bangladesh.

The Chinese leader will hold bilateral talks with President Abdul Hamid, Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during his 22-hour stay in Dhaka.

Hamid will receive his Chinese counterpart at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 11.45 am. The police have taken unprecedented security arrangements to ensure safety of the Chinese leader.

Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali at a press conference said the visit of Chinese President will not affect the relations with other countries.

He said over 25 Memorandum of Understanding on different development issues including economic cooperation, fresh investment, power and energy, agriculture, water management and blue economy are expected to be signed in the presence of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Xi.

The minister termed Xi’s visit as a grand success of the Awami League-led coalition government.

“It proves the confidence of world leaders in the current government,” the minister said adding that relations between the two countries would elevate to a newer height with the much-awaited visit.

Xi will leave Dhaka on Saturday for India to attend the BRICS conference slated to be held in Goa.
