Dhaka – Malaysian marine officials have arrested at least twenty Bangladeshi nationals as they were trying to enter the country illegally, said officials.
Malaysia state-run Barnama news agency reported that the illegal immigrants were detained at Kuala Sungai Bagan Tengkorak of Tanjong Karang on Wednesday.
Port Klang Marine Police acting commanding officer, ASP Mohd Rohaizad Mohd Nasir said the boat which was ferrying the illegal immigrants was seized around 2:25pm (Malaysian time) under ‘Op Landai’.
“Initial investigations revealed that a pom pom boat from Indonesia, KM PUTRA KUALO, was ferrying 20 Bangladeshi men, aged between 20 and 42,” he said in a statement.
The age of detainees was between 20 and 42, said the officer.
Nearly 1,000 Bangladeshi nationals were detained in 2015 in same manner after they attempted to travel to Malaysia by sea.
